Yoga Workshop : The World Upside Down – A Different Perspective ;-)

As children we learn about life through play.

As adults we quite often tend to take life too seriously. When we do, play is a great way to ”snap us out of it”, gives us a new perspective. And we all know there is nothing more refreshing than a different perspective. OK then, maybe a fresh sea breeze as well 😉

Welcome to join us in this playful Inversions Workshop – with a sea breeze if the weather allows, indoors if that breeze is too refreshing.

You will have two internationally certified Vijnana Yoga teachers guiding you through our journey in a safe, professional, caring and also fun way to whatever inversion and new perspective your own destination may be this very Sunday morning.

Dick and Cecilia have both been studying, teaching, practicing and laughing together for 11 years now, nationally and internationally.

Energy bar, gluten free, dairy free, raw, paleo

Snack bar – the healthy one ;-)

Quite often I see recipe´s in magazines and books which I then either rip out (that´s for the magazines eh 😉 ) or go ahead and buy the book immediately so that I can test them. If I deem them yummy as well as healthy I share them, always quoting the original source of course ;-).

They ones I share will always be easy to make, as I am – still, and I think always will be – a real klutz in the kitchen.

If it hadn´t been for me being lucky enough to find the best co op partner in the world to work with – thank you Jo Parfitt for introducing us – as well as the most fun, brutally honest and with a heart the size of the distance from here to the end of our galaxy and back, friend, Stephi from Appetite Voyage, I never would have ventured outside the world of already printed and created recipe´s. Ever.

Buuuuuut – Stephi taught me the art and the dare of tweaking recipes. Of adding certain flavours and textures while removing others. Of never being afraid of listening to your own palate as well as any hunches you get while cooking and tasting. And most of all, of never being afraid of trying, laughing your head off when something really weird comes out, then returning to try again and again until you get it. Or get something else, even better.

With that in mind and hindsight, yesterday I embarked on making these “energy bars” from a recipe originating from a AH Magazine, of  which I only had about 1/3 of the ingredients at home – putting my Stephi hat on.

The bars themselves came out looking kind of bland, but the taste…. Boom!

I had them all in two days, so it looks like I will have to make some more again tomorrow. It only took a whopping 10 minutes (or even less actually) to prepare and make these bars. Amazing :-)!

Ingredients;

12 dates

1 dl flaxseed

1 dl shredded coconut

1,25 dl cashews

0,75 dl melted coconut oil

 

What to do with all this;

Chop the dates up first (unless you have a really, really great and expensive mixer – which I don´t, I used a handheld one for these). Then throw all the ingredients together in a bowl (if you use a handheld mixer) or a blender.

Mix.

Spread out on baking paper.

Leave in the freezer for an hour or so.

Slice in pieces the size you´d like, keep ´em in a container in the fridge till you hear them calling you.

Nutritional Seminar ; – Myths and Truths about Sugar And Your Health

All you ever wanted to know about sugar, but never dared to or knew who to ask!

You will get some great nutritional insights from internationally certified nutritionist Cecilia Gotherstrom and plenty of recipes and food ideas from food connoisseur and international food blogger Stephanie Mazier.

All this in a relaxed, cozy atmosphere with coffee, tea and snacks.

The purpose of this is fun get together is to gather you people who´d like to take better care of your body, to live a healthier life, without dropping the fun and the yummy!

It is the perfect setup to share questions, doubts and beliefs around sugar and what it does to our body, for instance:

Is sugar good or bad for me?

What is sugar actually?

Are my cravings really telling me anything about my sugar intake?

Sugar and diabetes, what is the actual link?

All these words – glucose, fructose, dextrose, xylitol, aspartame, brown sugar, cane sugar, honey, agave syrup, coconut flower nectar, raw sugar ? etc are driving me nuts. What are they, what do they do?

Is there such a thing as healthy sugar?

Are carbs also sugar?

What is insulin actually, and what is it´s function in my body?

What is the glycemic index?

Are there any so called sugars I should eat?

Yoga, Trekking and Midnight Sun

 

August 4th – 7th 2016  &  August 11th – 14th 2016

Welcome to our yoga and trekking long weekends at Helags Fjällstation/Mountain station in Swedish Lapland during the summer of 2016. No previous experience necessary!

We will be staying together at the Mountain Station with full board, enjoying two yoga sessions per day during the morning and the evening. There will also be a seminar on the theme “Holistic Health” including nutritional advice during the weekend.

We will gather at the Inn Wärdshuset Helags in Ljungdalen Thursday morning for a meal together and an introduction of the program for the weekend. You will be able to make a picnic from all the food on the buffet to bring in your own backpack for the hike. We have transport arranged to the parking spot Kläppen where our trek begins . From there we trek to to Helags Fjällstation , a 14 km hike/walk along beautiful flowery trails, passing next to lakes and creeks as we ascend.

During the days of our stay at the mountain station in the National Park you will have the possibility to take different walks/hikes/treks with our mountain guide in the magic mountains of Helagsmassiven. Or you can spend the days however you choose or wish yourself  taking your own hikes/walks in the area, going on a safari to meet the arctic fox in it´s natural habitat, hike to the top of the mountain or just relax in the beautiful, serene mountain environment.

We trek back down towards Ljungdalsbyn on Sunday morning. From there we depart to our home or next destination. For those who wish transfer to and from Östersund (Airport Åre/Östersund with 14 direct flights per day to and from Stockholm, Trainstation Östersund has 4 train departures per day as well) is available for an additional fee.

Lodging:

We are staying in 4-bed rooms at Helags Fjällstation / Mountain Station. Bed linen and towels are provided. At the mountain station there are also showers and a sauna plus a small store where you can buy your own snacks or other supplies you might need during your stay in the mountains.

The food part;

The restaurant at Helags Mountain Station is renowned for it´s kitchen, which serves locally harvested, foraged and produced food (the region of Jämtland being on the UNESCO world gastronomy heritage list)

Welcome to this new Yoga & Nutrition workshop at EVA´z Yoga & Pilates in Heemstede on Saturday May the 21st.

 

Detox is a word that has been and is being throw around in a lot of different directions and contexts over past years.To tell the truth, a lot of the time this awesome concept it is taken greatly out of it´s actual context, at other times it is completely misunderstood.

Detoxification is a natural process in the body as well as in nature. 24/7 it goes on without us even realizing it most of the time. When we do realize the process exists is usually when something is out of whack ;-).

How to optimize the enviroment for this natural process in our bodies, our minds and our surroundings, how to completely understand the way detoxification works as well as how it does not , that is what will be focusing on, experiencing and learning in this unique workshop. In a space where the science of yoga is combined with both the modern scientific nutritional side as well as the ancient traditional healing systems of the east, west, north and south.

As an internationally certified Yoga Teacher and Nutritional Health Coach, I am stoked to welcome you and am really looking forward to answer any quesitions you have on the subject.

In the name of Flow, we move through the practices of ”just sitting”, breathing / pranyama, a series of postures woven together in a holistic way, ending with a deep relaxation/savasana.

The focus will lie on experiencing the flow of one moment to the next, or as you could call it from one ”now” to the next ”now” ;-).

This thing we call ”Life”

 

She is looking at me like she is wondering what the heck I am doing all day. Those clear, wise yellow eyes have shifted from the regular look of either curiousity or reaching out to concern.

The beautiful thing is that meeting those eyes is all it takes for me to slow down. All it takes for me to rest her head in my two hands, looking in to her soul as she looks in to mine , wondering what the heck I AM doing all day.

It is actually not about the doing, as the lists of stuff we need to do to make a living and live comfortably never ends. It is about how we do those things.

In my mind, in my world, I was planning tonight´s yoga lesson – after having rushed through dishes, washing and vacuuming – totally focused on the task at hand.

In Elsa´s mind I was totally lost.

What she saw was a human who just ticked off one thing on the list , moving to the next one , entirely not in the moment at all. As the body of the human was packing the yoga mat, the lesson plan, the water bottle, aura spray´s, philosophy books and car keys in the backpack for the class three hours ahead the mind of the human was already in the weekend after next planning the workshop to be taught by then.

In my world, years ago, I would have seen myself as organized, well planned and always on the ball in that very moment.

In my world now, I know my world is not mine. In what I call my world now I learn the practical sides of what the yoga philosphy teaches every day anew from these two husky ladies.

This combination of yoga philosphy and husky wisdom has turned what I thought was my world completely upside down, has opened more doors in both the mind & life than I ever could have imagined possible (and I do have vivid imagination, so that statment says a lot), has totally re-defined what I considered to be ”life” and what this ”life” was or should be all about in the first place.

John Lennon was right – Life is what happens when we´re busy making other plans.

This thing we call life is happening to us right now, in the right now, always, non stop.

It can´t be put on hold, it can´t be rushed, it can´t be slowed down, it can´t be sped up – all those concepts are something we have made up in our minds.

Honestly – how on earth could you put your life on hold?

Would you just park it like a car at the side of the road, step out and wait?

Go try it out if you´d like.

You´ll see that , as Lennon put it, Life still happens. Ain´t nothing we can do about that happening or not happening!

In 2001, when I was faced with a burnout and depression from exhaustion while working in Austria, a collegue of mine, Franz ,lent me a book – ”Being Happy !” by Andrew Matthews.

THE thing which stuck in my mind from that book, which I have not read since even though it still sits in my bookshelf (no, I did not keep Franz´ book for 15 years while moving 4200 km further north ;-). I did buy my own copy.) , was Andrew´s advice to practice the ”awareness of a dog” ; To see the world anew every moment just like a dog who walks the same route every day, with a never ending curiousity, living every moment anew.

Moving our bodies, then sitting still to observe, to take in, moving again, stretching a bit in between, breathing well, releasing what we don´t need any more – that´s what dogs do. And teach us.

I am sure there is no coincidence there is more than one dog posture in the yoga asana´s ;-).

Andrew Matthews planted a concept in my mind, Yoga is leading the way for me, but Akasha and Elsa are the ones teaching me how to practice living it.

Dogs do this ”shake thing” quite often.

They do however not only do the shake to dry faster after a swim. Dogs do the shake every time they are done with an action, every time they move from one action to another.

Maybe it is their trick to leave what is not needed behind, to create space for what is to come – to be able to be the most Present possible?

Let´s all do the shake more often!
